The Philippines at the 32nd Venice Biennale, The First Participation

In 1964, the Philippines under the direction of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), was represented at the 32nd Venice Biennale. As early as 1961, Purita Kalaw Ledesma wrote the Biennale and in 1962, the country received its invitation but was not prepared to participate. It was the AAP under the helm of Jose Joya that was able to finally join the international exhibition. It selected Joya and Napoleon Abueva to represent the country
